Check out our market report for January and our Brochure to see what’s in season and what’s out. We have some lovely seasonal delights to look forward to this month as we kick start the New Year. Some old favourites from December such as Brussel Sprouts will still be available for a little while longer, however, be aware tops and stalks have started to slope off now that Christmas is behind us. Fresh Cranberries will follow suit shortly. English Apple season remains strong and we have some wonderful varieties coming from the farm in Tonbridge, Kent. Royal Gala, Braeburn, Cameo and English Bramley Apples to name but a few. Â
A few minor produce warnings on the horizon as detailed in the market report include Plums which European varieties have now completely finished so only South African available which means lack of volume and quality not quite there yet until the season fully kicks in. Pardon the pun but there is still a ‘Grape’ challenge with both Red and Green Grapes at the moment as volumes from Southern Hemisphere are very low.
We are pleased to report we have seen the first of Seville Oranges on the market (season is very short so grab them whilst you can). Blood Oranges will also be a highlight for January, the flesh will start off a paler colour and become a much deeper red as the season progresses. The clues in the name but January King Cabbage is also highly recommended this month as a seasonal delight.
